The clipboard is the right size only for a pad with glued edge top, not one with perforated pages and the 3/4" cardboard fold-over flap top. A top-perforated paper pad is overhangs about 1/8" on the bottom, which means sheets will end up with dog-eared bottoms. The 1/8" thick plastic seems to be more like Lexan (flexible) than Plexiglass (brittle), but since I haven't dropped it yet (as will surely happen someday), I can only assume it will survive. I'd suggest the "legal size" clipboard if dog-eared pages might be a problem.
I am using it as a shop pad, so the paper might end up with measurements or as a disposable mixing tray for epoxy. My lack of recommendation for a friend to buy is solely based on what I believe the better half would say if she were to use it. It works fine for me, especially at the price, but the short length wasn't apparent until I put a pad in it. The 3/4" folded-over perf-at-the-top seems to be standard now for letter-sized "legal pads" so just be aware of it. If I were to recommend this, it would have to be the larger "legal" size (but that one wasn't on sale).
