The 3 inch expandable is great if you have enough information to demand it. I also use the 1 inch expandable until it will not fit. Then, I graduate to the 3 inch. At first it is very flimsy and does not function well. I would like to have a 2 inch expandable.
Other options are also available with extra divisions so it can continue to grow with my needs.

The product description states:

3" expansion

I have other 3" expansion folders from Blumberg www.tinyurl.com/Blum3 and your 2" version of this light blue product. I need 3" in light blue (a color that BB does not carry).

Why do you describe this 3" product as both 2" and 3" (i.e., as a '3" expansion' but 'with a 2" capacity in positions 1 & 3') ?

  The entire folder can hold 3" worth of materials. The fasteners that come with this folder will hold 2" of papers each.
