I bought this calculator because I I really needed a new, longer-lasting calculator than the Staples Bubble calculator, plus I needed one w/ a "percent" key as I calculatwe sales taxes on items purchased not only where I live, but in a neighboring state as well, snd according to the reviews I'd seen of the Bubble calculator, it has a fairly short battery life (though it does have that all-important percent key)--this calculator, the 10-digit one being reviewed, is solar-powered (w/batterybacup, but the since it's solar-powered, the battery should last a fairly long time), which is one of the reasons I bought it.

Another reason is its ease of use: With the Bubble calculator, it's pretty hard to push the keys down (due to their "bubble" design, which gives the calculator its name--it may make the the calculator "look cute," but in the end, it's impractical); with the Staples 10-digit calculator, the keys are very easy to press, and the display is likewise clear and easy to read.

The final reason I got this calculator is the fact that it has an attached hard case--the fact that it folds back (nearly) 360 degrees is an added advantage (though really, I would've settled for a 180-degree foldback, if that had been all I could've gotten).

Now for the single con: The reason I'm giving this product only four stars is (to me) a major complaint I have with this calculator (and the Bubble calculator as well)--there's no "OFF" key, so one has to wait for the auto shut-off function to kick in, which can be a drain on the battery if you'e not using it in a very well-lit room. (And the Bubble calculator, by the way is NOT solar-powered--no wonder others were commenting on its "short battery life"!)

I bought this calculator for my 11 yr old son who needed a simple calculator for a school project. The cover is nice since it would be tossed into his backpack. But it makes it unstable when set on the desk or table top. It slides around and is not stable. Otherwise it is easy to use.

Q:
I have SPL-150X 10-digit display calculator. Often times, I cannot turn on the calculator by pushing the ON/CE button. e.g., I could not use it ALL DAY yesterday (4/3/2013) but this morning I could turn it on. Is there a way to turn it on besides pushing ON/CE button? I tried putting it in the sun to see if that helped but it did not.
