I purchased my first set by chance. I bought it at the store, and was focused on the description of papers being surrounded on three sides. I thought I was purchasing slightly expandable files, with an accordion side. I was also on a tight budget.
For my purposes, I really like these file folders better. I'm using them to store and organize documents for a few related matters. My documents contain less than 60 pages.
I purchased a label maker, and in two days had most of my paperwork organized.
My final/original documents are easy to find with the Secure Feature (they're under the secure flap). I have loose copies in the file to pull later.
These folders are good for holding drafts, with the most recent draft filed under the secure flap.
In some of my folders, all of the paperwork is under the flap. It's easy to flip through thin documents without removing them from the file folder.
The 3-tab label area is 1/2-inch taller than the top of the manila folder and 4-inches wide at it widest point (the base). When filed in a hanging pendaflex file, the paperwork slips down in these files by about 1/4-inch (still secured by 1 1/4-inch of the flap). My 1/2-inch wide file labels are easy to read; the papers in the file don't block the label. The secure flap is 1 1/2-inch high, and looks like it will expand to 1/4-inch in thickness.
The manila file folders sit a little low in my hanging Pendaflex files. I tried out another brand of decorative folders, and this seems to be the case for both brands. I'll need to create labels for some of the Pendaflex files (a little more organizing) for easy document retrieval.
I think the special secure feature makes the file more stable (stiff). Each file folder is manufactured out of one solid piece of manila stock. The 50-count box is the best value.
Comments about Staples® Secure Manila File Folders, Letter, 3 Tab, Center Position, 50/Box:
These are the best file folders around. Easy to use, durable and good quality. I would like there to be a variety of colors and to able to purchase from the local Staples---other than those problems, I love these folders.
