When I went shopping for a new home desk chair over the holidays, I was ready for a change. My old swivel chair was too low and too cheaply made, and my legs and back knew it. But all of the chairs at Staples and the other office stores were overly padded for my taste; as the chair for my home office, I want it to be firm and comfy, not a big leather beanbag pillow to sink into.

This "Silverio" looked much different than the other chairs, and - wow! It is. It's a curving plane, in the spirit of mid-century Eames design, with firm but pliant black leathered padding. The pneumatic pump is well built and the swivel mount seems solid and it even rocks back when you lean backward. The arms are not padded; just polished silvery steel, which is coolly pleasant to the touch and like the rest of this lovely piece of furniture, is cleanly sensual without all the stuffing. Since I spend 8 hours a day in it, it turned out to be a superb investment. It feels great on my back, and my rear end thanks me every day. I've only had it a few weeks but already it feels indispensible. We'll see how it holds up in the long run - I'm hoping its as durable as it looks -but for now, Silverio gets the gold star. Word to my rear: sorry that I took so long. Enjoy.

Misrepresented Chair

This chair, which is a replica design of a famous model, is not what is portrayed. "Bonded Leather" is not leather at all but a poor and cheap imitation plastic. In fact it is polyurethane embossed to look like leather. Calling this furniture "Bonded Leather" is deceptive because it does not describe its true nature. And there is no way to tell if this polyurethane is of good quality or not. Polyurethane covers tend to peel - I've seen it a lot. Also breathability is not a quality of this plastic.

The back of the polyurethane cover is a cheap man-made cloth. Other replicas I've seen have been finished with the polyurethane on both sides. Not this one. I've sat in captain's chairs before. They are similar to this in that it is fabric stretched between two rods. They are not comfortable for long but at least the fabric on those breathes.

In the end I decided to return it. I didn't want a plastic and chrome chair at all. I want a chair that will last and is comfortable.

    My husband works from our home...and this chair is used primarly for business. He finds the sleek design of the chair to be the perfect scale for our small home. It has a firm yet comfortable seat, with a high back allowing for great back support. The chair also has a great tilt and swivel mechanise that allows him to move and adjust the chair easily. Great Chair!!!

            Had this chair for 9 months but had to return it. Staples were very helpful. The silver paint on the armrest started to flake and it cut both me and my partner on the hand. We were only using the chair occasionally and don't have kids so the chair must have been poorly sprayed. For [$], the silver parts should have been chrome rather than dangerous paint....

                  I have this chair and use it without the arms attached every day. I simply skipped the step of attaching them when I assembled the chair. I weigh 150 lbs and the chair feels sturdy without the arms attached.
