I'm not a computer whiz by any stretch of the imagination. I was shocked when I bought my new HP Windows 7 computer and it had no place to plug in my ancient HP Laserjet 6P. After some investigation, I learned about this adapter. Had my old printer set up with the new computer within a 1/2 hour and it's working perfectly. Just be sure to download the most current printer driver by pressing the Windows Update button on the Windows 7 printer install page. The printer driver for the Laserjet 6P appeared only after I did that when it was missing from the initial list of available printers. I'm so happy I can still use my ancient, but dependable Laserjet!

The product looks good in the box but the box does not give any OS details. The instructions in the box states that Windows 7 has a built-in driver for this unit. That is correct. 7 sees the unit but it will not allow you to install any printers through the unit. It's a waste of time. Online support does not even list this unit when searching for help. Don't buy it if you're running 7!

      Tried to connect an old printer to my Windows 7 desktop. The adaptor did not work at all. I also noticed 3 other packages that were returned and sitting on the Staples discount rack. Staples should consider removing this product from there inventory.

      Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

                    No, you will need a 25 pin connector which is available at http://www.staples.com/Belkin-IEEE-1284-A-A-Cable-DB25-M-M-6/product_321119. Other than that, install the appropriate USB drivers for your printer (available from the HP support site) and you should be all set as Windows 7 will recognize the printer once the proper drivers are installed.
