This adapter allows us to still use an old keyboard and mouse that don't have USB connectors. Saved us lots of money to be able to use the components we already own. Also, our kids are reluctant to adapt to the newer mouse styles (requiring more use of fingers than moving the entire mouse). We had many problems with wireless mice not working after heavy duty computer game use (lots of movement of the mouse), so the wired mice work best for us! This adapter allows us to use the type of components (older) that we prefer!

Serious P.I.T.A.

When the mouse and keyboard are plugged in to the adapter, every few seconds the LEDs on the keyboard flash, and during the flash, and for a moment after the flash, any characters that have been typed are completely dropped. This has caused a severe reduction in typing speed and accuracy. I would not recommend this to my friends, because they would think I was trying to play a practical joke on them. I wouldn't even recommend it to someone I DON'T like…

        Comments about Staples USB-to-PS/2 Adapter:

I have a source for "cast off" computers and recently acquired a pair of "new" Dell Optiplex 780s. Great. Got them home and commenced the smoke test. Started hooking up and got about half plugged in and ooops, no little round hole for my old keyboard all USB. I have an old large Gateway keyboard that I am really attached to. After a couple trips through all my junk boxes I decided it was time to find an adapter. I went to Staples and bought this one with a pig tail for both mouse and keyboard. Don't need the mouse part, so far, but got the keyboard working again. Plug and play. My keyboard is 20" wide and around 120 keys and built like a tank, dirty, but works for me. Happy with my adapter. Even happier if I had been able to get a little discount. One star for price. Running Ubuntu 12.04LTS

          Comments about Staples USB-to-PS/2 Adapter:

I built a new PC with an ASUS P8H77-I motherboard that only comes with a single "combo" PS/2 Mouse/Keyboard port. I needed to connect this PC to a conventional KVM (Keyboard/Video/Mouse) switch that requires separate PS?2 connections for the mouse and keyboard. This adapter combines the two PS/2 ports and plugs into a USB port. It works perfectly for my need.

Yes this product should work for your connections of the circular PS/2 device to your USB port.

Answered on 2/17/2012 by Laura B from Staples
            • A:

Yes, this product is made to connect the older circular prongs (PS/2) mice and keyboards to a USB port. The make of your keyboard or mouse won't matter.

Just connect the keyboard to the purple jack and the mouse to the green and you should have no problems at all.

Unfortunately, Staples only carries one type, one brand and it's not a very good one. It constantly requires you to plug it into different ports and reboot when it "loses" one of the components.

I am a customer and do NOT have knowledge of the inventory. I seem to recall that there was a single adapter for mice, but the keyboards require special 'stuff' and the mouse cable was spliced in as a bonus. Don't use it, but I won't cut it off because (if my wireless USB mouse fails) I might want to connect a PS/2 mouse.
