Q: I have kept my laptop plugged in since I received it right around Christmas 2012. When I hover over the batter symbol it says 88% available (Plugged in, not charging) is this normal or is there a possible issue with the battery or power cord? Asked on 1/24/2013 by Lisa Marcoux from Roxboro, NC Know the answer? Answer this question 2 answers A: I don't know if 88% is correct, but Lenovo has a energy management application built in. If you open this Lenovo power management application, it allows you to select "Optimize for run time" or "Best Battery Health". When "Best Battery Health" is selected, and the laptop is connected to AC power, the battery is allowed to discharge partially. On my Z570 laptop, it discharges to 49% and stays there. When the cursor is placed over the tray icon, it says "49% available - plugged in, not charging" and stays at 49% as long as it is plugged in. This prevents overheating of the battery. Choosing "Optimize for run time" allows the battery to charge to 100%. I wish my Toshiba laptop had this feature. Answered on 3/16/2013 by Z570 owner from Fairfax, VA A: There are numerous reasons why this could be happening -a bad battery, bad cord, overcharging, BIOS update may be needed, battery may need to be re-calibrated... Your best bet, especially since you just received the computer is to contact the manufacturer and take advantage of your warranty - it may be a simple problem but you may be able to get a brand new battery if yours is defective, but do it while the machine is under warranty!
