I bought this in its wrapper, without examining it in the store, because it looked exactly like the old one I had (35 years ago) which I gave my son. With the Vivitar name, I bought it confidently. What a disappointment! My old one was sturdy metal construction, and had no backlash when the adjustments were secured. This one is low grade plastic. The designer did manage to do a great job copying the looks of the old model, but it is impossible to secure it to where it is stable. I was skeptical about its light weight, but did not expect such poor design and construction.

difficult to extend and retract legs; if you're not careful, you could easily bend the legs or even cut yourself on the sharp edges

Light-weight was important because I had to carry it around with me. I also needed it to extend to at least waist height. It was perfect for my small video camera.

This tripod has a standard camera screw mount interface so it should theoretically work, but it is very unstable.

Is this tripod compatible with a flip camera? The flip tripods I saw were too short for what I am looking for.

I want to know how short this goes. I need a tripod for a digital camera and want the height to be no more than 14" tall. I want the spread at the base to be about 11"
