Don't let all the biased reviews scare you. After you get it set up and get your email and contacts going, this thing is great. Runs smooth and the Live tiles are cool. App selection in the Windows Store is growing by leaps and bounds in the store but we need more quality apps, which will come. I have about 90% of all the apps I previously used on android, but want a few more that I hear are in development. I like that I have the full office suite, like Word, but also have the backend to connect to my home network and print to network printers easily. What is also great is the internet browser is very capable and is not a toy browser - I can go to all my work sites with no issues. Whether Apple lovers like it or not, MS has created something unique and refreshing that is going to force them to rethink their future models. My recommendation is buy one and give it a try for a week, and then make your decision, as it is a bit different in the way it does things, but is logical when you think about it.

The build quality is very good, but the Windows 8 RT is poor. Very little customization, and no useful software at the Windows Store. At this time you can't even change the Internet Explorer to another browser.(Windows will not let you.) It's not even a good toy. Wait for the Pro version of Surface. I wish I could return the unit but I kept it too long. I will end up giving it away.

Great device. I was a bit skeptical initially but I have really fallen in love with it. The screen is amazing, and the Touch Cover (which doubles as a ridiculously thin keyboard) is a nice addition. I had to replace a dying laptop and I could not be happier with the Surface taking its spot. The Surface does not totally qualify as a laptop, but it comes closer than any other device could. It's no secret that although the iPad is a great consumption device for internet, books, movies, etc. , it falls well short in any category that would have a use for creation. The Surface actually allows for all of it, and it does it all very very well. I love the screen and the colors. I also like the larger screen size than the iPad, as it is perfect for HD movies whereas teh iPad acales those movies kinda weird. My two favorites though are the full MS Office Suite of software and the keyboard. The TouchCover keyboard even includes a trackpad/mouse, so I can easily jump between the Windows 8 screen and the "old desktop" mode of Windows 7 which is included. Overall, the build quality, the kickstand, the software, long battery life, and keyboard make this one crazy cool device. It is perfect for business and work, but I love just popping off the magnetic keyboard when I get home and reading a book on it or killing time on Netflix. My suggestion is to order one or go check it out at Staples and see for yourself. I fell in love with mine the seconds my hands got on it, and I have a feeeling many others will do the same. Everyone that uses mine is blown away by it, so that is a good sign... Have fun!

      This is almost as heavy as a laptop! Very bulky, the flip out stand on the back can painfully pinch fingers when you close it if you're not careful. I thought this might be a good tablet for College, but for its bulky size and weight I'm better off with my ultrabook. I returned this tablet to the store.

      Wanted this as a portable addition to my big laptop and a way to get used to the new Windows 8 operating system. Frustating when asked to log in and it wouldn't send an email to my juno account. Wish they had clarified that a Microsoft account was needed at start up. Once I set that up, restarted the Surface (wiping eveything out), it went very smooth. Am a bit disapointed that I can't add tags to my photos like I can on Vista or windows 7-- but htat might just be my lack of knowledge.
