Don't let all the biased reviews scare you. After you get it set up and get your email and contacts going, this thing is great. Runs smooth and the Live tiles are cool. App selection in the Windows Store is growing by leaps and bounds in the store but we need more quality apps, which will come. I have about 90% of all the apps I previously used on android, but want a few more that I hear are in development. I like that I have the full office suite, like Word, but also have the backend to connect to my home network and print to network printers easily. What is also great is the internet browser is very capable and is not a toy browser - I can go to all my work sites with no issues. Whether Apple lovers like it or not, MS has created something unique and refreshing that is going to force them to rethink their future models. My recommendation is buy one and give it a try for a week, and then make your decision, as it is a bit different in the way it does things, but is logical when you think about it.

The build quality is very good, but the Windows 8 RT is poor. Very little customization, and no useful software at the Windows Store. At this time you can't even change the Internet Explorer to another browser.(Windows will not let you.) It's not even a good toy. Wait for the Pro version of Surface. I wish I could return the unit but I kept it too long. I will end up giving it away.

The Surface RT-64 is hamstrung by the Microsoft OS system. Microsoft will be changing that. Another down-side is that you can't load great software you own onto it like Hoyle Solitar and games, you are limited to what is downloadable at the Microsoft website.

What is great is the long, long battery life and the super light weight and size of this. Also 64GB of memory is huge and you can augment it with micro SD chip added memory (sort of--again hopefully the OS upgrade will improve things).

This is a great portable device to check email, check & edit photos on trips, ammuse yourself while being bored in an airplane, and even do a little work on Microsoft office software!

When I first got the RT I went through several phases of love/hate. I'm a fan of windows but this was my first time using the new start menu interface and I had trouble adapting. But I've really learned to love this thing. It runs all day, is fast, and does everything I need it to do. Also, you can change the on screen keyboard to a real keyboard layout which is really nice for the work I do. It is important to run the windows and store updates as soon as you can. They are set to automatically run but you don't want to wait as they fix many minor issues which could frustrate you quite a bit.

I am finishing up a Master's degree and about to begin a PhD and wanted a tablet that I could do homework on and this fits the bill. With the full version of Microsoft Office, it is a mini computer and the touch screen is a bonus when working in documents. I love it!
