I have had several brands of Laptop cooling fan pads, from many reputable brands, but the Targus chill mat is the only one so far that has lasted more then 30 days with BOTH internal fans operating. I often have to work on my laptop for several hours at a time and, with all the other laptop cooling fan products, at least one of the fans stopped working completely in a short period of time. While they were within their one year warranty, it would cost more to return them to the manufacturer then to buy a new one.
I am so PLEASED to have a product that I can depend on to work and, this Targus chill mat, is reasonably priced and reliable.

Don't waste your money. The fans are powered by your USB port. I can not feel any air flow from the device, but I can hear both fans. Very poorly designed. I suggest that your do not buy a cooling device for a laptop that is powered by as USB port. I am a registered professional electrical and mechanical engineer with 45 years experience in computer design.

I bought this fan a few months ago, within a month one of the legs broke off while moving the laptop then a month later the port where the wire goes in got sensitive. I had to wiggle the wire to make it work and then if the wire was bumped just a little the fan would stop working. I called Staples to discuss the matter and they couldn't give me the time of day. The associate made me feel like she had more important things to do. For now on I will take my business elsewhere.

I do not know where to begin with this piece of junk. [...] From the moment I started using it I felt hot air coming out of the fans - I swear I felt my laptop getting hotter and despite testing it again over a couple of days I had enough and got it far away from the laptop. I think any longer would have destroyed the computer. Furthermore, Targus support is horrific - product registration is a joke as well. Finally, the "cooler" itself is made of cheap plastic, has minimal height adjustments available and is so cheap it can barely hold down paper (hence I would use it as a modified frisbee rather than a paper weight -- or for stress relief: see the movie "Office Space"). Do not listen to recommendations for either Targus products or this horrible cooling "mat".Now that I think about it, Targus did one thing right by calling it a "mat". It is about as solid as a dining mat. AVOID.

  Yes. There is a "foot" on each side at the back of the unit that folds out to raise the back by about an inch. I haven't used the feet so can't say how effective they are - I do note that they don't appear to lock in place and that might be a bit of a concern.
