i got this as a gift for my dad because his computer would over heat and shut down and he was worried that one day it wouldnt turn back on and that was a big problem beause it held many important documents that were irriplacable. when we first opened it, it was simple to use and effective. it instantly cooled down the computer and you could feel the difference. this was an example of money well spent. i recomend it.

The fans on this unit suck air out from under your laptop and push it out the side. (I bought this assuming that the fans could be reversed, but they are mounted in such a way that they cannot be reversed.) For most laptops, (including HP laptops like mine) the built-in fan is a blower fan that draws air from the bottom and vents it out the side. The result is that this product's fans work against your machine's fan, which actually causes the machine to run hotter than if there were no extra fans at all. Check your machine very carefully before buying this product. Laptops that are designed to exhaust on the bottom are very rare, but those are the only ones that should use this device.

Targus makes (and Staples sells) another laptop cooler made for larger laptops that correctly blows the air *up*, and that product works very well.

the on off switch is in the power cord, but my on off switch was not only small and hard to use, it broke within the first few months - pad still gave me insulation from heat, but not impressed with the product enough to buy another - went with a different unit altogether.

It's hard to find a good laptop cooling pad these days, especially on a budget. The best one I've found is of the Antec brand, and it was about the same price as this was on sale [$]. This has two flimsy fans inside a cheap plastic case, and I would not recommend it to anyone with actual heat issues with their laptop. Maybe if they were obsessive compulsive about their laptop and they thought it had heat issues, this could act as a placebo to make them feel better, but otherwise no, no recommendations from me.

I have had this product for at least two years and it still does the job. The switch works fine but, the cord can be cumbersome at times. This product cools the computer and allows proper vetilation while keeping your lap from overheating.
