I admit that I haven't used the product much beyond initial testing. I was VERY pleased to see that it worked in Linux (Ubuntu 10.04) on OpenOffice without any work on my part. This is important to me because for personal presentations I use this software and OS and it wasn't listed as supported software.

I bought this because I have had a need for one several times in the past and I will be doing more presentations in my job. Additionally, having the laser pointer built-in is a big plus and definitely worth the extra money (and yes, I have two other stand-alone laser pointers).

I found the ability to lock the device down to a few specific buttons to be helpful. I have also found the device to be rather intuitive.

Two big problems: 1) the laser pointer is VERY dim; 2) there is no mouse control (I probably could have figured this out from reading the packaging more thoroughly, but the laser pointer on/off button looks like a mouse tracker). Without a mouse control and ability to click right/left mouse buttons, the unit has extremely limited function. Combine that with the dim laser and the remote is a loser.

Well Pleased with Presenter

Comments about Targus Laser Presentation Remote:

Purchased it about a month ago. Practiced with it immediately, but only used it in a presentation this last week. I used it constantly to advance Power Point lessons during a four-hour seminar. It worked well and served my needs well. I like the way it turns itself off after being inactive for a while. That helps reserve the batteries and prevents finding it dead when you come back to it. It is light weight and handy. Buttons are conveniently used. In addition, I like the way the little USB connection fits into the mouse so that it is easy to keep up with. The laser pointer worked well, too.

Comments about Targus Laser Presentation Remote:

The device seems ok at short ranges and for small group presentations (like PowerPoint or Keystone). But it certainly will not work at 50 ft. reliably. PowerPoint slides do not always advance with each click, so presenters are distracted playing catch-up. Not worth the money at this point.

Comments about Targus Laser Presentation Remote:

When I purchased this I looked at the reviews and they were great! I felt this was a good value for my business and would be exactly what I needed for training. It worked fine when I bought it, really easy to use just plug in and go.. no software needed. I really liked the fact that it was compact and the USB just slips in the base for easy storage. I use a lot of PPT and slide presentations so I really needed a pointer and slide advance feature. I had a great love affair with my new toy at first but after one month as I was placing the USB in the base it wouldn't close. I realized then that one of the tips had broken. I was able to get it closed so no worries. Then recently it began to work sporadically.. fine in the AM but only the pointer worked after lunch. I am really unhappy with this model and am looking at going a different route. It is not made very well and may not hold up for you if use it often. I'd think twice about buying this product.

Comments about Targus Laser Presentation Remote:

This product is the best one I have had. It has already lasted me longer than any other one like it. It is extremely easy to use and it has many features that you could make the presentations row efficient and effective when using. I use this for teaching and it is really nice because of the blackout screen option that is has. I also love that it has a way to lock all buttons so that if I need to place it in my pocket while teaching, I can and it will not move the presentation further ahead or backwards. This is a great product overall.

      • Q:

With my older macbook pro, this works flawlessly. With my new macbook pro, I can't move from a blank/black screen to the next slide - I must return to the previous slide and then move to the next.

Is there something in the macbook pro that can be changed to make it work as well as the old computer?
        Asked on 8/6/2012 by bill

        • A:

This product is fully compatible with Mac OX 10.4 and higher, so your remote should be operating flawlessly. Since it works with the old Macbook Pro and not the new one the issue is with the new Macbook Pro. It'a an Apple problem and you need to contact their customer support.

          A:

The Targus Laser Presentation Remote is not designed to replace your mouse, this is a tool to enhance your presentations with laser light and slide proceedings.
As per the manufacture Targus at (877) 482-7487, I was advised that this laser presentation remote would not have the mouse cursor control. However, the AMP09US would. I'm sorry, this new model is not a regularly stocked item at Staples but we have a specialty team which has forged partnerships with multiple vendors to provide a wider product assortment. We can forward the information to our product specialists and see if we can locate the item through special order, please call us at 1-800-333-3330, we are always happy to help.
