Q: I sent this message a few minutes ago: "The instructions for the Staples Black Swing-Arm Incandescent Clamp Lamp are woefully inadequate. The "elbow" between the lamp and the lamp arm post came disassembled with no indication of assembly, no illustration of an exploded view. Which what goes where? I am somewhat frustrated (and in the dark - ha)." I looked more closely and determined the joint was broken and cannot be fixed. Answer this question 1 answer A: There is nothing wrong with the elbow. There are two springs which you just hook to both ends, creating a tension, thus holds up the arm. I can stretch it strait for more than 3 feet! or I can bend it, but you must anchor the bottom with the bolts to prevent the plastic holes from breaking. YOU DO NOT NEED INSTRUCTIONS TO ASSEMBLE THIS. Mine came with an instruction sheet, but I didn't bother to waste time reading it. It's entirely intuitive. It took less than 10 seconds to assemble it. One other tip: anchor the bottom first with the "hole" facing vertical direction; then simply drop the lamp into the hold! The entire process took me less than 2 minutes. You must know the limitations to ALL lamps. The clam must be anchored to wood or metal no thicker than 1.5". That's not a defect; it's the nature of beast.
