This hard drive is fantastic. I am a Mac user. I was a little concerned when I first opened it because it didn't say on the package Mac compatible (I ordered online). I opened the instructions and they said that it would have to be re-formatted for use with a Mac, which I am not familiar with. I connected it to my Mac, and my computer re-formated it for me with one click. I had intended to use the hard drive just to store pictures and videos of my children, but ended up using it to back up my entire computer! This is my first hard drive and it is very easy to use. Great value. I backed up my entire computer and only used 90GB of space. I'd definitely recommend this hard drive.

I bought the external hard drive to use as a hard drive for windows Server 2008 and all this product des is back up my system with no way to turn that option off that I can find. I have asked many people including other students, professors, teachers and instructors at Three Rivers Community College which I attend, and they told me to try things which I have and with the same result, so what I bought was a back up hard drive which I do not need considering I bought and installed Norton 360 on my computer for that option.

      I think the ease of use is important and it met that goal for me. I do not understand the regular backup settings. Backup is useful but regular backup setting choices I thought was too regular. There was no choice for not to back up. I had to cancel every time it started to back up and I did not want it to. Overall I feel it is an excellent product. I have started to see price decreases in similar products with more storage space. I wish I had shopped around.

        I have a small business online, so backup is imperative for me. I was tired of paying each year for an off site service, and settled on the Toshiba brand portable Canvio 3.0 500GB external Hard Drive.

        What's good about it is; it works like a charm at backing up my computer. It was very fast down loading all of my files, and the 26GB I needed to store took next to nothing out of the 500GB capacity I had bought. It even let me create a boot disk! I was impressed.

        What's not good about it is; They say there are instructions on installing it, but there are not any that I could find in the box. What Toshiba calls instructions is warranty information and disclaimers. SO, if you are not at least a little tech savvy about where to find things on your PC and how to start programs without help from a wizard, I would not suggest you get this unless you have a friend handy that does know how to.
