I use the device for daily file backup and a weekly system backup. I also use it for occasional backup on a seldom used older laptop.

I really like its small size and portability.

For daily use, it is transparent - that is, it does the job and I can forget that it exists. However the weekly system backup takes several hours with my configuration so I must do it overnight or it slows everything down too much until it is done.

This series of products are all defectively designed. The don't work with Dell (the one I tested, thousands of others tested on other computers, please search online) usb 3.0 ports. The port on the drive is not a standard one, meaning you have to use the data transfer cable coming with the drive. If it goes bad or is lost, you will lose connection.
Toshiba knows they have this problem and keep selling the product, without any recalls.I filed replacement, but they ask me, the customer who did nothing wrong, to pay the shipping fee. Toshiba sucks; you should quit the external hard drive business in the US.

                This uses a USB 3.0 connection, so this external hard drive will work as long as your laptop has an open USB port. No separate power supply is required!
