This is a very fast drive with the usb 3.0. When this drive is compared to my old Toshiba 2.0 drive is lightining fast. This 3 TB offers a vast amount of storage for Videos and data. I would be surprised if I ever fill up this drive. here is the Specs:

Questionable reliability

I've owned quite a few external drives in the past, however this is the first Toshiba I've had. Over all it does what it should in a backup drive. No frills, a solid design, just a block with a USB port and one for the included power supply. Plug it in and it was immediately seen by my Mac Pro,(it comes formatted in Windows NTFS which can be read by Macs but not written to without additional software.) All the backup software is for Windows as well so I can't review any of it.
Once formatted correctly the drive is ready for files, I used a backup program from the App store called Backup Buddy, that seems to pickup the slack left behind by Time Machine, however Time Machine is perfect for primary backups, and with 3TB of storage, this drive gives me tons of storage.

My only problem is that it failed after only 20 days of use. Staples was great about replacing it and hopefully it was a fluke. At least the info it backed up was still on the original drive so nothing was lost. If this doesn't fail again for a while then I have nothing else to complain about.

I needed to seriously boost storage space on my iMac. This seemed to fit the bill nicely. It's got a lot of space, decent performance and Mac compatibility at a great price. Since it's new, I'll hold-off on the 5-star rating. That will come over time with reliability. I'm optimistic.

Simply a Piece of Junk

I just bought this piece-of-junk external hard drive, which worked fine for a week or two. It only failed once I'd accomplished moving all 15 years of family pictorial history to it and only after deleted those backup files from the server on which they were stored. If I don't get adequate support, I'll raise serious cane.

Used the drive with no major issues for a few months at home. Then one day while reading content drive started clicking and is no longer accessible. Checked reviews and found that this is a very common failure.
