I've recorded well over 100 DVDs on my 620 in 15 months and cannot recall a DVD record failure on any brand. I would have given 5 stars as a DVD only recorder. The VCR dub to DVD is poorly conceived -you can't pause the DVD during recording, and the recording quality is poor if the tracking has problems.

At the moment you connect it to the power, lights begin to blink and it doesn't accept any commands (with the remote control or manually) it means that you can't use it. When I called Toshiba to give me a place where I can take it to be service, they told me that I need to mail it to their place (I have this machine for only 4 months). Their warranty is not good.

Buyer Beware: I bought this DVD/VCR Recorder to record different TV programs on different channels during the daytime while i was at work, but only came up with L1/L2 on the channel. What happened to this system? Previous DVD recorder could tape any channel. Very DISSAPOINTING! If anyone knows how to record different channels, your advice would be appreciated.

No problems on the DVD side and the upconvert looks really good. But the VCR has been chewing tapes after 1 year (just in time for the warranty to expire). The ONLY reason I bought this unit was to convert home videos and nearly all of them are ruined.

THE IDEA OF OWNING/USING THIS MACHINE IS OVER RATED. SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO DUB VHS TO DVD. RECORD TO EITHER SIDE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A + . THE EDITING FEATURES ON THE DVD SIDE ALSO SEEMED PLAUSIBLE. THIS POORLY CONSTRUCTED MACHINE LASTED APPROX. 10 MONTHS BEFORE THE VHS SIDE COLLAPSED AND WOULDN'T ACCEPT TAPES. TO TOP IT OFF, THE MACHINE WOULD STAY ON FOR 10 SECS. W/THE EJECT SYMBOL DISPLAYED ON THE TV (ALTHOUGH NO TAPE WAS IN MACHINE!) AND TURN OFF. THIS RESULTED IN NOT BEING ABLE TO WATCH OR RECORD ANYTHING - EVEN ON THE DVD SIDE, BECAUSE THE CHEAPLY MADE PIECE OF JUNK WOULDN'T STAY ON FOR MORE THAN 10 SECS!!! WAS ABLE TO CONVERT ABOUT 2 DOZ VHS TO DVD AS WELL AS RECORD SOME SHOWS/MOVIES DURING ITS BRIEF LIFE. VERY DISAPPOINTING NOWADAYS TO PAY FOR ELECTRONICS AND THE QUALITY IS ABOUT 1/3 OF THE PRODUCT QUALITY FROM A FEW YEARS AGO. MANUFCTRS JUST WANT THE FAST BUCK CONSUMERS SHELL OUT W/O ANY CONCERN ABOUT THE INTEGRITY OF THE MERCHANDISE OR CONSUMER SATISFACTION!!! EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE BUILT NOWADAYS WITH A 12-15 MONTH SHELF LIFE - JUST OUT OF REACH OF THE WARRANTY.!!! !!!! !!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!!!! !!!!!!! !!!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!!
