Be careful buying this!

After having this computer for only five months, approximately three weeks ago the problem began. My wife uses this laptop as a secondary computer in our kitchen area. It is set up on a table and does not travel out of the house.

She came downstairs one morning and discovered an "ink blotch" disfiguration on the top, dead center of the LCD screen. The screen clearly had 4 little spider type cracks coming from underneath the bezel, exactly under the webcam.

I called Toshiba. They made it sound like they would take care of the problem. I filled out an online claim and paid them $25.00 to ship it back to them, at their request.

After receiving the computer, they emailed me saying it would cost $325.00 for the screen to be replaced. They included pictures they took of the cracked screen. This is after I told them twice (on the phone and in writing) that the screen was cracked.

Of course, that just stirred me up more, because they were told the screen was cracked from the beginning. I called them and asked "have you ever repaired a screen under regular warranty"? The representative said NO. I asked "Why did you make me waste another $25.00 to ship it to you knowing the screen was cracked"? She answered that I had a "good question" and was going to take notes and transfer me to a supervisor.

The supervisor did nothing. He basically said "too bad", I can't change what the repair depot says. I asked for my $25.00 shipping charges to be refunded. Nope, can't do that either.

Knowing in your heart, that you bought an obviously cheaply made, defective product, and you were treated like that, HOW WOULD YOU FEEL?

I will NEVER, EVER, buy another TOSHIBA product.

For an i-5 chip, with 6 gig RAM, I thought it would be 'quick'...it's just ok, imo. In fact my old Acer it is replacing, i-3, 4 gig RAM, and a HD drive loaded with photos and docs, runs neck and neck with this 'new' i-5. Somewhat disappointing. And,the flimsy DVD/CD drive is inconveniently placed right up against power cord in socket. That drive is quite noisy, when running a disk, and it 'comes on' every time one pulls laptop from sleep or reloads the net. For the sale price: a C+. When not on sale, take a Pasadena. And, my i-7 desktop will walk this thing. Curious to see how long it 'lasts', before the inevitable HD corruption, so common on nearly every brand of laptop these days, imo.

      Bought this computer for work. Died after 16 days. Staples would not return. Had to send off to Toshiba. They made me pay for the shipping. Always had Dell computers and thought I would try Toshiba. Big mistake, even bigger buying from Staples. They should at least have a 30 day return policy.
