A good program, in general

Two complaints:

Turbo Tax insists on including its thank you letter and a lot of unnecessary paperwork when a user wants only the finished return and necessary forms. Too much paper and ink is wasted in the process.

I had to ask "support" to help me access the state form which had been included with my purchase. The obvious tab resulted in a request for an additional fee for the state form.

But, the Turbo Tax program does get the job done in the end, and that makes the purchase worthwhile for me. I do think the state "e-file" should be included in the purchase price, however.

Good Software, Download was Delayed

The software was relatively easy to use, and brought over all of the data from the previous year and compared our deductions and income at different stages, so you could see if you missed anything. I was also able to download some of my W2 info, which is a big time saver. I have two kids in college, so it automatically ran through the comparison of tax savings programs to help us with the best option. I was not able to download the software right away from Staples, which disappointed me. When I called customer service, I was told it was a vendor issue, and if I decided to purchase a disk, they would refund me. I tried to get my refund the next day and Staples told me this time that I could not do it, and I thought the customer service person was rude. They did refer me to Intuit, and I filled out a form on line and received a check back in about a week.

I have used Turbo Tax for about 10 years and have found it to be easy to use and accurate. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to prepare their own personal federal and state taxes. It also has the capablity to e-file both federal and state taxes.

  Staples provides access to your purchased software and the activation keys in the "My Software Downloads" section of their website. So it's still available to you if you buy a new computer or have to reload you crashed PC.

I've seen Turbo Tax advertised on other sites that charge for the State form however, the e-filing is for free. My understanding is that the State form is included but there is a charge for the e-filing on the Staples site. For comparison purposes; how much is the e-filing on the Staples site?

  I apologize, but Staples does not offer e-filing service. The Turbo Tax Deluxe Fed + Efile + State 2012 for Windows, is a software download only. You would be purchasing the software only. Charges, (if any) you incur while using this software would be from the Turbo Tax service.

What does "1-User" mean? Does that mean only one tax return can be processed? or can I do more than one tax return as I have in previous years?

  One user means installed on one computer, you can still process more than one returns. In fact you can efile up to five (5) returns (the max allowed by the IRS).
