          The "OPEN" was printed on the sign in red, so it looked like the sign was on all the time - especially if/when the sun was shining on it. Most signs are dark/black when not on.

          Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

                two questions: first, what type of light source does this use, and second, what are the different ways it can be turned on/off? Once it's in place it will not be convenient to flip a switch on the housing, but a long pull chain could work.

                  This sign is not recommended for outdoor usage, this sign should be hung inside a window. You could use outside if you were going to bring it in every night but definitely not in extreme cold of zero degrees. Thanks
