I had a Samsung digital camera, that I liked very much, however the CD-Rom that you had to run to download the photos, had broken in half. I was at Staples and was looking at digital cameras, as I was ready to replace the whole camera. [...] When I got it home and opened the package, I said, "Oh no"! It had no instructions. I am not familiar with all the new electronic do-dads. Well in less than 5 minutes I had it hooked up, and was downloading my photos. It not only was very reasonable in price, it served the purpose perfectly, and was quite easy to use.

The product is cheaply made and started to fall apart after only 2 months of using it once a day. The screw backed itself out. The product cracked one of my SD cards. After tightening the screw, it became unreliable and would give me a hard time with any SD card I had. Worth spending an extra $15 because you will have to sooner than later.

heavy use, lasted 5 years

Comments about Vivitar RW-50 50-in-1 Card Reader/Writer:

I am a serious amateur photographer who bought this to replace the same product. I believe that I had it 5-7 years before I started having issues. That might not seem like a long time, but it was used every day for at least two years and 4-5 times a week before that. During that time, iit read my cards without issue. For the price, it is worth it.

Comments about Vivitar RW-50 50-in-1 Card Reader/Writer:

Bought this reader to download photos from my Canon G12 camera. The SD memory card had over 3000 photos and would not download directly from the camera using the USB cable. This reader plugged into my computer's USB and the SD card plugged into the reader and within seconds hundreds of photos were downloaded and ready for editing. No need to first install software or insert a CD (there is none). The operating software is installed in the reader and downloads are seamless. I like using this reader much better than the USB cable that came with the camera. Good product.

Fifty in one .???

Comments about Vivitar RW-50 50-in-1 Card Reader/Writer:

Yeah, fifty types of media cards, is okay BUT ONE card at a time!!! HENCE, it is considered a JUMP Drive card reader, I found this out from Vivitar Tech support. I have two so far, I really bought this because my Kodak Digital Camera uses Compact Flash cards up to 128 MB, and two of the three Notebooks I have do not have a slot for them but for the other media cards! You have to be very careful in inserting the Compact flash card as not to bend the longated tiny pins. It must not bind and it must be inserted slowly straight as an arrow.
Any larger capacity of compact flash card inside the camera, will use about 172 MB of it. This media card reader can use any size of nedia cards up to 16 GB and still work, but anything that is greater than or equal to 16 GB, is a very slow media to use. amd Windows considers it as a regular HDD type of drive. With Windows 7 or 8, you can assign the card also to drive letter A & B; D to Z and evem mount it inside any NTSF root folder. (Drive letter C is FOR Windows!!!)
