I often take as many as 300 pictures a day in my job. Each requires download, naming and segregating to job folders. The process is simple and the device is easy to carry with me for ability to work during a slow period in the field. Much better use than a previous type I had tried.

Small, but unreliable

I bought this on the road, having left my multi-reader at home and figured a super-tiny MS-Pro reader would be a good thing to drop in my camera bag.
The Vivtar reader is about the size of a thumb-drive, has a well designed media slot which I found perfect for the USB slots of my Dell laptop (the memory stick either points up when installed or away from my mouse - depending on which set of slots I used).

It was also pretty quick at downloading images taken with my 24mp camera via the USB 2.0 interface...when it was operational, that is.

Unfortunately, the reader seems to regularly "hang" while copying files (causing windows to drop the device in the middle of operations). In order to copy an 8GB card full of images, I've had to pull the reader and re-insert it several times - not quite an unattended process.

The Vivitar MS reader is adequate for the job in a pinch, but not a device I'd want to use regularly.

Q:
Sorry, but I'm not too computer saavy. I get the types of memory cards mixed up. Which memory cards will this reader take? What does it mean by writer exactly? Is that just transfering photos, etc. to another computer vs. reader just being able to view them on a different computer? Is the thick party a little heavy - I tried another reader and it was trying to pull out of the USB port whenever I used it. It sagged I guess is a way to put it. Thanks!
