WM Recorder v.15

Comments about WM Recorder for Windows (1 User) [Download]:

1. As I tried to install WM Recorder 15, there appeared two error messages:
"ADA recording mode could not be setup!" and
"Cannot open port 554 on your local host. RTSP streams cannot be recorded in Browse Mode."

I have yet to receive any advice on how to solve the ADA recording mode error warning.

A WM Recorder Technician provided this advice:
To fix your port 554, also known as "Media Center Extenders -RTSP" you will need to go into Windows Firewall Advanced setting. Locate the port double click on it which should pull up it's properties. From here you need to check the "Enable" box and under "Action" make sure "Allow Action" is selected. This should open port 554.

However, no port 554 is to be found in the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security. Should a technician check the feasibility of his own advice before giving it to customers? Is this is what a WM Recorder technician can do, what can the program coders do? Let's see.

2. The Stream Record window does not work even when I try to record programs from the national networks NBC, CBS, and ABC. Never does a link or any other information appear in the box under File Name. Consequently, the button "Download" returns an error message indicating that no item has been selected.

3. The button "WMX-Auto Off-Scheduler Off" does not toggle to anything when clicked on.

To record anything, the "Screen" button must be clicked. This opens the Screen Recorder window.

4. Opening the Screen Recorder causes Microsoft Word to function erratically, e.g., it can make the cursor unable to select text. To solve this problem WM Recorder must be closed…and sometimes even Word has to be closed and relaunched.

5. In the Screen Recorder window, the screen recording box does not automatically capture the whole window that has the video to be recorded. It may only capture some area of it.

6. To capture the window with video to be recorded, the "Mark Video" button must be clicked so that a reshapable green rectangle may open and the user may place the cursor on one side of it so that the cursor may change into a double-headed cursor that can be dragged in and out to manually and laboriously –the rectangle cannot be moved as a whole- reshape the rectangle to make it frame the video to be recorded.

7. The window with the video that is being recorded cannot be minimized because that stops the recording of it and only the corresponding area of the desktop appears in the recording box of the Screen Recorder window.

8. As a consequence, the window with the video being recorded must be kept open and the movement of the video keeps distracting the user as he tries to work in what is left free of the desktop.

9. Worse yet, the user must be very careful when he opens a new window or moves one around, for it must not cover either the window with the video being recorded or the recording box because that new or moving window does not slide beneath but rather on top of the window being recorded and the recording box and will be recorded instead!

10. Nor can the user move the window with the video being recorded because the framing rectangle does not travel with it. As a result, whatever the rectangle frames, even the background on the desktop that becomes visible upon moving the window with the video, will be recorded.

11. However, because WM Recorder behaves erratically, the window on which the user is trying to work, e.g., a Word or an Acrobat window, may slide beneath the Screen Recorder window, thus covering part of it and preventing him from seeing, let alone working on, the area that has slid underneath. There is no way to control whether a working window slides underneath or on top of the Screen Recorder window.

12. The recording can stop unexpectedly even when the window with the video being recorded is still showing such video.

The current version of WM Recorder is alleged to be no. 15. If that is so and yet it works in such substandard and counterintuitive fashion, what is it that WM Recorder 1 was able to do?
