On my Linux platform, however, even given the latest known Wacom drivers, supporting this model still involves patches and workarounds, even though the functionality is very rudimentary. Backward compatibility...?

I had an old Graphire Wacom tablet that was so much easier to use. I am disappointed with the Bamboo.

Comments about Wacom CTL470 Bamboo Connect Pen Tablet:

I'm used to using a SMART Slate or as they used to be called an AirLiner Slate when I sold SMART products to K-12's as an IT professional. Due to using that device I think I had high expectations for this but it still gets the job done nicely enough. Too bad there isn't a button you can click on the pen that turns the tip into an eraser. Good for adding digital signatures or playing in PhotoShop / Illustrator if you can't draw with a mouse like me. Sidenote: Wacom makes both the Bambo and the SMART Slate and they are the industry leader. Won't find much better than what Wacom puts out.
