I feel much better knowing all my files are backed up. It is basically a separate hard drive. If my pc breaks down, all I need is another pc to get on that extra drive and I am back in business! GREAT

There were some issues with my laptop after I installed this. It freezes up and doesn't want to shutdown properly. This may not be the fault of the storage but it is something to research.

Install is easy, but understanding what WAS done and what CAN BE done next was hard to find e.g. what was installed and what more can be enabled/registered. A layman's overview would help remove the fear of not having understood something.

Handy Network Backup

We use this in a small home office. One computer is hardwired to the network and the other is an IBM Thinkpad. We bought this to replace a Maxtor One Touch III which was repeatedly causing a "blue screen of death" on the hardwired computer. Maxtor knew of the problem but had no solution.

Installing this device was simple, even for the notebook which connects via WiFi. It makes easy work of transferring files between machines (which was a hassle with the non-network Maxtor).

We haven't installed the automated back-up software yet and I'm reluctant to make it accessable over the internet...even if it would be handy.

It is not the fastest on read/write; and it can be annoyingly slow to wake up from hibernation. But, overall, it does the jobs we want it to do, and we encourage all our friends to have some sort of backup storage. Cloud computing and cloud storage will bite all those trusting users on the behind sooner or later.

I gave it 4 stars, but realistically it'd be three and a half if I had the option.

We are only using about 10% of this little boxes capacity and features and are pleased to not having to be running backups and worring about whether we have gotten everything backed up.
We plugged it in. Loaded software on each computer and away it went. Later investigation showed that everything was backed up, even thing we didn't know we had to back up.

Both of our computers automatically backup as files are modified. The backup program does NOT interfere with other computer activities - our previous one took over the entire computer when it ran.
