Create your own cloud storage space by adding this Western Digital My Book Live drive to your network. The drive provides up to 4TB of storage space for your system, and any device on the network is able to store and access data on the drive quickly and easily.

  • Personal Cloud Storage
    • The Western Digital My Book Live contains two hard drives that provide a total of 4TB of storage space for your system. The device can connect to your network through a wireless router, allowing the My Book Live to function as a personal cloud storage device. You can replace either of the device's hard drives if one is damaged or if you want to upgrade to a larger drive.
  • RAID 1 Setting
    • The Western Digital My Book Live includes a RAID 1 setting that provides you with mirrored storage space. When you use the device in RAID 1 mode, data is stored twice-once on each of the device's drives. This feature provides you with a redundant copy of your data, so that if one drive is damaged, you can still access your data on the second drive. When you use the hard drive in RAID 1 mode, its capacity is halved, allowing only 2TB of storage.
  • Shared Storage
    • Once the drive is connected to your network, any device that has access to the network can access the drive. This allows multiple computers or network devices to use the storage space simultaneously. Computers and other devices can also access the drive remotely if the network that the drive is attached to is connected to the Internet.

      It's hard to describe this unit. I like WD products I have been using them for years. This unit promises a lot but so far, I have not gotten it to deliver. The basic set-up was easy. It comes with a CD that loads a dashboard program; everything else is done through there and its IP address. Setting up a second machine proved interesting; A) I hope you have a CD/DVD drive for the included CD, I'm not sure how I'm going to set up my netbook (no drive). I may copy everything to a USB drive, b) When I log in to the remote laptop I'm thrown off the main machine and have to log back in. I guess I can't be logged in from two different machines. And it's NOT fast …
      Also, I have yet to get the "cloud" (internet) to connect. I authorized it as per the manual. I had the e-mail sent with the access codes. But when I try to log in it goes of to never-never land. My remote machine sits and waits for the drive to answer until everything finally times out. I have tried from work (T1 high speed), I have even tried from within the house, in the network! I'm running 256-DSL at the house …
      So, I think I should have held out for the other DX4000 drive … but in the mean time, it still slowly works within the wifi of the house.

      Cannot believe staples sells this product. I wish I had read online reviews before I bought it. It was a quick decision - and a very bad one at that. I am writing it off completely. It is actually too slow to even bother using.

      Overall, it is a good product, especially for the price. You will not find a NAS out there that comes with 4TB of installed storage, with the capabilities of the DUO, for the price. I do wish it had more add-ons and plugins. The FeaturePacks Manager is a nice add-on, but you have to do a lil but of work to get it installed.

        I have had files distributed accross four systems for years, and often it has taken a lot of time getting the right files on the system I needed them. Now, I have a disk big enough to hold them all and they are effectively available on all systems. There are many projects (that are now moving forward because it is now convienient to make these large collections of files and be able to get at them from where ever you are.
