It will be even nicer if the size can be reduced a little bit; but overall it's a very good product.

It is cheap for a reason

Decided to pick this up to replace 2 older drives for my primary backup. Loaded about 10 years of my data onto it, and put it into a firebox. Used it once or twice...Read complete review

Decided to pick this up to replace 2 older drives for my primary backup. Loaded about 10 years of my data onto it, and put it into a firebox. Used it once or twice to add more to it. Pulled it out one day, and it said "Drive F: needs to be formatted" in Windows 7, and all of my folders were missing and the drive seemed like it had been erased. Long story short, the MFT became corrupt for no reason, and drive would not work in Win 7, Mac, or Linux. After buying an awesome program called R-Studio, I was able to recover all of my data from the drive, which took 4 days to do. Thankfully Staples returned my money, but I lost my Staples rewards that I used. I'm going to try a WD Caviar Black hard drive,(not from Staples) and put it into a new external case instead. Total piece of junk WD Elements drive.

    Had the hard drive up and running in less than two minutes. Speed is more than adequate for file sharing when connected to my Netgear router. I was originally considering a 1TB drive but couldn't pass up the 1.5TB capability for less cost...it is like getting an extra 500GB free.

      This is much easier to set up than older WD external hard drives. Recent purchase so can't rate reliability, but files stored pull up fine so far (not always the case with a private off-site back-up company). It's plug and go without formatting difficulties.

        So far, this is an easy external hard drive back-up. It's much easier than the older external drives that needed formatting, etc. It's basically plug in and use. I have not had it long enough to determine reliability, but I've been able to open from this unit fine. I've had periodic problems with an off-site back-up company (files did not open properly) so I'm using the external hard drive as a back-up to the off-site's back-up for irreplaceable files.

                To share data that is on the external hard drive with a second computer, you can safely stop the external hard drive, disconnect the drive from the first computer, and then connect it to the second computer. This drive cannot be connected to more then one computer at a time.
