This is my 5th Passport throughout the years.Never had any problems with any of my units. They are all in working conditions (2 X 320GB, 500GB, 1TB and now the 2TB). The 2TB is the largest I have owned and it is holding up great. The backup software works just fine and have tested it.
The unit is small and compact, fast (USB 3) and reliable.

This is a very fine and large capacity HD that serves a dual purpose in my Home and Business network. I use it mainly for the new Dell Latitude 10 Tablet (which is great by the way....) since its small form factor uses 64G Flash HD and no large HD. Thus I use this portable disk HD as a back up for that Tablet and to store large files I don't use very often.

In addition I use the WD my Passport 2TB for backup of some critical business Quicken data files and some other data by plugging it into my Router when I'm not using the Tablet. I can then use the Home Network to move and store data files from the other 4 laptops and All-in-Ones in the home network. The only problem is the current generation Routers do not support USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 is incredibly slow once you get used to 3.0 when transferring large video files for backup.

Antivirus is up to date and immediately caught and deleted this trojan on the Passport drive shortly after installation and registration but new copies keep appearing. When the USB drive is not on the system there has never been an instance of this trojan before or since. Customer support recommended reformatting the disk but I had already archived to it before the trojan resurfaced. Now had to retrieve that archived material and requested a drive exchange by RMA. Rather than a new drive, WD sent a "recertified" drive in place of the new one I had just bought. Not acceptable from my standpoint. Now they propose that I return the recert. drive to them and exchange the original one with the retailer where I bought it. I went with WD this time after a premature electrical failure in a Seagate drive. If a "known" threat gets installed with the backup software, what else might be lurking there?

I am very happy with My Passport. I had a Toshiba external drive which was a piece of junk. I would recommend the Western Digital. Seagate also got good reviews but went with The Passport as the product and especially their customer service is excellent.

Staples matched competitor's price. Worked as expected. Using as USB 2 until I get a USB 3 Express Card. Not as fast as firewire or Thunderbolt but gets the job done. Bus powered - a HUGE plus!
