I needed a desk for some newly acquired home office space. My Wife evicted me from my old home office space and seized my old room.I looked everywhere for something that looked good and offered a high degree of quality and functionality. I shopped [@], and all the Office Stores and ultimately found this great Desk ensemble at Staples. The Whalen Astoria Desk is a Great Buy!Staples delivered these (Free) within 2 days of placing my order.I purchased 2 of these and placed them in an L-Configuration at the intersection of 2 walls. This gives me about 8' feet of useful/functional desk space. These Desks Look Great! They have the appearance of high-quality and look like they cost much, much more. They will work and look good in just about any decor, traditional, modern or eclectic etc. Contrary to some review comments, the Desk is not difficult to assemble. You need no tools for assembly, not even a screwdriver. All that is needed is the Allen-Wrench that is included with the supplied parts.Assembly Hints:Take Your Time! Read The Assembly/Parts Manual First!Lay the parts out on the floor before you. Make sure that you familiarize yourself with all parts and that you have all the parts listed in the diagram. Make sure none are damaged.I had the misfortune of receiving a cracked keyboard drawer and 2 left legs. I contacted the Company, Whalen via the supplied 1-800 Number and they immediately offered a sincere apology and sent out the necessary replacement parts. When you assemble the Desk do not initially tighten the screws. Tighten them only enough to hold the desk together during assembly. Once you have the desk properly assembled go back and tighten all the screws down. Do not over-tighten. All the parts are listed by letter/number and by visual reference size in the Parts-Diagram. You can easily match them up visually by size. Essentially, there is no excuse to miss-identify the correct hardware part. When you are finished you will have a sturdy attractive desk that looks like it cost much more. The Black Glass and Black/Brown Dark Cherry Wood motif are rich looking. The slide-out Keyboard Drawer is large and offers ample room for full-size keyboards, pen-tablets, mice and other handy stuff.I also purchased the matching shelf unit which is part of this Astoria Group. It is a nice complement to the Desks. My Wife was thoroughly pleased at just how nice these look in my new office and she rated them five star.Enjoy!

Everything was fine but directions could be improved. Primary problem was not highlighting the proper length of screws. The result was with top upside down that we put long screws where short ones were meant and thus broke through the top laminate. I decided to eat this stupid mistake and buy another one. Not sure what to do with the previous one - maybe a work bench in garage? Otherwise nice unit.

Q:
What is the width of the surface of the keyboard drawer? And how much space is between the surface of the keyboard drawer and the underdside of the desk top? (We'd like to use the drawer to store an electronic keyboard/piano rather then a computer keyboard.)

The bottom of the keyboard tray is 24.75" from the floor. I just completed assembly of the desk and made the measurement while the desk was sitting on a laminate floor.
