This desk is very beautiful and sturdy. It does however scratch easily but it comes with two markers that match the wood colors that work wonderfully to cover any up. All the pieces came unharmed but make sure your treat each piece very very carefully. It is pressed wood and easily the top wood liner will start to lift up while setting it up if your not careful though a little bit of super glue fixes it! All in all, I LOVE THIS DESK! It really makes the area you place it look ten times better and you can fit a lot of stuff on it!

I had a substantial coupon to Staples and was in great need for a desk so decided to take a look at the stock. I'm a budget shopper, but my desk is the base of my personal productivity and a centerpiece of my main room - I needed something sturdy and spacious but with a presentable aesthetic.

This Whalen desk caught my eye as the only very affordable hutch desk that looked good and wouldn't clutter my apartment. The small size and the lack of drawers was a big concern initially - I do a lot of video editing work, needed my 27" monitor to fit with my laptop and have some table room for sketching and note work. Once assembled I was very pleased with the design and finishings, not top of the line material, it scratches and scuffs easy but if you take care of it it looks great. My monitor fits (very snuggly) with room for my laptop and just enough table space for anything else. The cubbies aren't very deep or large but enough to keep things uncluttered. I am forced to keep a lot of other materials in external drawers or shelves which keeps the desk pretty clean and presentable. The desk has never shaken or waned on me in the few months I've had it. While I may not be able to fit everything I want on it - it fits what I need and it looks awesome. Overall I was very pleased with the purchase and expect this to hold me over for a long long while.

I spent hours scouring the internet for a computer desk that would be sturdy and visually appealing--and affordable. I couldn't believe how hard of a concept this was! I don't know why computer desks are so dang expensive, and I'm talking flimsy, small ones. After taking a break and coming back to see if there was any other options I finally found the Whalen® Bedford Desk & Hutch, Brown Cherry on Staples.com. This was just what I was looking for. Something that was sturdy and looks great. It's large enough to get your work done while adding to the appeal of a room. The price was a little higher than I wanted to pay, but luckily Staples had a coupon that made the price more reasonable plus free shipping to seal the deal. That was important, although our local Staples had the item in stock, it weighs about 88lbs and I'm 5 months pregnant so that wouldn't work for me to pick it up.

Shipping was very fast, in fact I missed the first delivery attmept because I didn't receive a shipping confirmation email from Staples. Ordered on a Friday night and it was delivered the next Tuesday.

This desk was fairly easy to put together. The instructions are pretty clear. I recommend reading each step through, then doing the step. I put this together myself at 5 months pregnant since my husband works late and with my 2 year old and Facebook distracting me, I got it done in a couple of hours. It looks great and is sturdy and will last for some time. There was one pretty sizeable scratch on the actual desk top. They do provide you with color match markers for that reason, but someone in the factory had already filled this in, but it was still noticeable to me. Not a big enough deal to return the item. I do like the two-tone colors, adds to the visual appeal.
