Nothing wrong with this operating system, my wife and kids can even figure it out.For the reviews here that comment that they are disappointed, because the XP mode does not work, it works just fine for, its a pretty nifty concept. I use it to run my Quicken 2003, which will not run on 64 bit operating system.First, your computer processor needs to be virtualization capable, as stated in the 'Product Details' tab "Windows XP Mode requires an additional 1 GB of RAM, an additional 15 GB of available hard disk space, and a processor capable of hardware virtualization with Intel VT or AMD-V turned on"If you have this capability, you then need to download the VT engine and the XP Mode software from [@]. There is even a tool there to download and run first, to determine if your processor is capable of XP mode.

Neither the label on the box nor the directions for installation make clear it is NOT possible to use Windows 7 Professional to upgrade from Home Vista Premium. I found that out from Walter Mossberg at the Wall Street Journal. I had to exchange the Windows 7 Professional upgrade for Windows 7 Home Premium upgrade. Mossberg's website provides a handy table showing which versions of Windows 7 MUST be used to upgrade from specific versions of Vista. The personnel at my Staples store were glad to receive the table from me. You'd of thought Microsoft would have thought of this themselves. ARGH!

Comments about Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (Upgrade Version):

The product is great! I love Windows 7... I hated Vista... 7 runs similar to XP, but much faster and more efficient. Whatever you do, do NOT let Staples touch your computer. [...] Not only did it take over a week to get my computer back, they wiped out EVERYTHING (even my antivirus!). As I was crying, the manager said, "well, you didn't pay anything for the service!"

Comments about Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (Upgrade Version):

After 7 days of clearing driver headaches and resetting a Vista Premium laptop to this supposedly user friendly program and so many A/V and other requisiste software issues, and having a good look into this trimmed system,it would seem that this O/S is cheaper priced because there is less to it. Where the tooth hurt, the head was cut off: where the ankle was twisted, they cut off the leg. This is not a streamlined product, it is an amputated version of Vista and certianly not an XP. What ever happened to user choice software? Where so much has been removed, all the chooices are made for you such as what printer you should buy because this won't work with anything more than a year old. This is just another money grabbing scam where if your old office won't do it,just buy another one, evryone is rich like Microsoft right?!!!... What a rip off. We will certainly be going Mac for our next generation because with this type of consumerless; lack of conciencious application of what used to be good thinking and consumer friendly service, we have had enough because this experience alone will cost our business and family much more than a Mac set up. Thanks for less Windows! [...]

I upgraded my HP HDX 20" laptop with this (I left Vista on one hard drive and put 7 on the other)
The Professional upgrade also will let you run Windows XP (a free download) in a virtual window.
So with one computer I can now use XP, Vista and 7, I use 7 most of the time.
Now if your computer is a few years old I would hold off and buy a new one with 7 installed.

Windows 7 doesn't work well with productivity software. Even in xp mode it flaws your productivity software and moves extreamly slow. I would not recomend windows 7 to anyone who uses ANY older software to make a living. It may work well for teens who surf the web or looks at photos. Stick with windows xp, its much better!!!
