We needed something compact that works with windows 8 and this fit the bill. However, it is pretty tempramental on the paper feed. You need to get the paper in there prefectly or it scrunches up...even if you are off by only a little tiny bit.

I have had portable scanners before but they have been slower, and less intuitive to use. I had one by Neat and the software was so difficult to use I threw out the scanner. This Xerox scanner is a bit bulky, but considering the very important fact that it can be used stand alone without a computer, I'll take the bulkiness. It comes in a nice carrying case with a handle so the bulkiness is ok. It works quite fast, and is very simple and intuitive. The only issue I had was with the eye-fi card. It didn't seem to work, and the instructions were not very clear. This was an irrelevant point to me since I had my own memory card to use and I did not need to use the eye fi card to send the scanned images anywhere. All in all, an excellent scanner. Highly recommended.
