I usually purchase the multi-function scanner/copier/ fax with duplex function. I have been trying to implement a paperless office and wish I had purchased this scanner a year ago.

Pro, Pro, Pro: It zips along quite nicely, allows you to edit the pdf docs, has achiving capability to scan docs directly to a folder without having to click anything on the pc, has some nice quick editing features for docs to clean them up quickly.
It also has the one touch feature which are 2 buttons on the scanner, simplex and duplex. So I put my doc in and press a button, it puts them on my pc without me having to do anything on the pc, and scan the next doc. This stops me from having to go back and forth between pc and scanner, making my life much easier. I thought a con was going to be scanning receipts but i was just able to do that as well! Love this scanner. Makes me want to buy a more expensive scanner to see what they will do.
Con: Sets up a lot of organizational folders on your pc, not sure if I like that since I save all my docs to correspondence or accounting folders, but on the plus side you can set your preference for the scanning program to point to other folders on your pc.

Can use some Improvements
Pros...It took less than 15 minutes to set up and install, it's compact, it can be fast(see below) and it has the duplex feature.

Cons...I'll bore you to death. For starters the One Touch driver fails to provide a decent PDF image, if you want to use PDF format, you will have to use the Twain driver, I contacted tech support twice and on both calls they advised to uninstall and reinstall the drivers(quick way to get rid of you), needless to say it didn't fix the problem, tried it on another pc and got the same problem, gave up on it and decided to use TIFF files when using the One Touch function. One Touch feature won't allow you to set a default name for your documents, you have to go back and rename it. It jams about 15% of the time, especially with thin paper, don't leave it unattended if you are scanning important documents. If you use the VRS option included in the One Touch driver it will make the scanning process slower 'cause it has to convert every page it scans, otherwise it is fast. Wake up! am not finished here...PaperPort 11 is slow, I reinstalled ver.9, which is faster and works all the time. The Business Card application was extremely slow and inaccurate, I removed it. As far as the OmniPage and the other software I haven't tried it so I have no comments. The ADF tabs that keep the documents aligned are to short/small and the papers tend to move sideways.
If this will be your first and only scanner you may be happy with it, however if you have used other scanners in the same price/features range you will not be happy. I have a Brother simplex flatbed scanner with ADF and it performs much better, better resolution and faster but I purchased this one for the duplex function and that it does well.
I personally believe that if they fix the One Touch driver and include some flexibility in it, this can be a 4 stars scanner.

The ADF pad is a very small, flimsy component. A piece of rubber, with 2 holes, mounted on a piece of plastic. Rubber pad falls off (had less than one month). Replacement pads are part of cleaning kit which is quite costly! A disappointment considering the original investment in the machine.

Don't even think about buying one of these Documate series scanners. I didn't pay attention to the reviews about jams only to be sorry and strung out by the manufacturer until the warranty expired.
These scanners only work on pristine, new paper with NO FOLDS or creases. Everything else jams and won't feed. The only way to clear a jam is by turning off the scanner and closing all scanner applications.

Quirky setup but, once installed works good. Note: don't open & close Paperport with each use just let program run all day and Paperport won't hang-up. We have ~ 10 xerox 152 scanners & I've setup everyone. After the first failure to follow directions exactly, haven't had much trouble!
