I've read through comments saying this desk can only be assembled one way.....Wrong! It can.On the long side - just drill two holes the same size and spacing on the opposite side. For the corner back brace - just drill two holes in the leg to attach it. Wooowww....it's not rocket science.If you think the desk needs a little more stability - you can attach an X brace across the back with two wire cable and tighten the tension with the appropriate hardware.To protect the surface you can go to a sign shop and get 3mm PVC sheet. It comes in a variety of complimentary colors. It's smooth enough to write on, won't be effected by moisture and cleans very easily.[$]Me and my two boys put 2 desks together in about 90 minutes.To

Assembly time 1 hour# of Bolts 100+ # of other parts very few# of times i to take it apart to reassemble 0# of swear words muttered during assembly 1Above you can see my comments on assembly, I thought it was exceptionally easy to assemble, in comparison to a desk from that swedish place with the build your self furniture and delicious meatballs. I could have built 5 of these before i could get done with one of their items. THIS DESK HAS no drawers. Don't buy it if you need file drawers.I work from home, as an account manager for a bank. I only use electronic files, and i wanted some space to write, and store pictures and personal affects, this desk is perfect. L shaped desks usually start around 300 so at the price this is a bargin.The corner piece can not support much weight a computer speaker cup of coffee and a photo are probably all i will place there so it works for me.I would NOT RECOMEND THIS FOR A DORM ROOM, or someone with lots of books or files to store on it because the weight it will support is realitively low.

I purchased this desk three months ago. I have noticed the sagging on the writing surface side that other reviewers have mentioned. It comes with a metal cross bar presumably to prevent this issue, however, the bar itself is flimsy and obviously ineffective. I have added my own support piece to help reduce the sagging. I removed the key board tray, and I use that side for writing and support because it is the sturdier of the two sides. Assembly was not difficult just tedious. I did not experience the screw problems mentioned previously. In addition, you have to be very careful with the pieces as they scratch easily and the laminate backing comes off easily. I do not typically eat or drink at my desk, so I have not experienced the warping mentioned previously. However, as with any veneer product, I would always recommend using a coaster of some sort as warping is inevitable with these types of materials. It is designed for light to medium loads. Therefore, for a laptop, a light monitor, a phone and some papers, it works great; for lots of books and body weight it will not. What I like is that for the price, you can’t beat the amount of surface and work area you get. Most desks in this price range are 24-26” in depth. The added top shelf offers extra counter, and cubbyhole space. Although they don’t mention this, by reversing the legs you are able to go from a left return to a right return desk. The metal legs are sturdy. The manufacturer just needs to bring the rest of the materials used to the same level of sturdiness and this product would be a favorite with both students and professionals.

The design is eye-catchy and elegant.
However, the biggest problem with this desk is that the main surface (the long one) sags downward even with NO load on it. And it will sag down even more as time goes by, depending on how much weight is put on top of the desk. I thought it just happened to my unit, so i came to the store to check other units out. as it turned out, it seems to be a factory defect that happened on every unit. (at the time i bought mine, they only had the maple finish. now they came out with the cherry finish as well. so they might have fixed this issue with the cherry one, but i doubt it).
besides, if some tape is stuck on the desk surface, the finish will also peel off along the tape. it will even swell up if you put a hot glass of water on it. Also, the keyboard drawer is not very sturdy.

Bottom line: Go check it out at the store first to see if you can live with those defects or not before ordering it.

We bought 2 of these and put them in a half square design. We had to saw a tad off of one side and change the direction of one of the shelves but once it was together it fills half the room perfectly (small room) so that my husband and I can sit next to eachother, have our monitors in front of us and also a tv in the middle. Its very useful.
The only problem I have had so far is that if you eat on your desk make sure not to eat anything with grease or let condensation from drinks get on the surface because it soaks it right up. I have since put a thin sheet of clear plastic on top. I would have done that from the beginning if I had known.
