I have always wanted a wood filing cabinet, I got so tired of the metal ones... I absolutely love this, I have 2 rows for letter files in the top and bottom drawers. I have my printer on top. Putting together was great, because the company put the slides for the drawers on already so that saved alot of time. It goes so well in my home office with the other furniture.

As some of the other reviewers have posted, I had the same problem with the bottom drawer not closing because of interference with the base. The fix is fairly easy however, especially if you have a power drill: Take the drawers out and you'll notice that the rails are secured with 3 wood screws, next to each of which are unused vertical slots that can be used instead. Remove one screw at a time (so that the rail doesn't become mis-aligned) and reseat the screw at the bottom of the vertical slot, but don't fully tighten yet. When all 3 screws are in on both rails, adjust the height of the rails to the same amount needed to clear the base of the cabinet. Tighten the screws a bit to hold the rail in place and insert it into the cabinet to verify smooth closure. Adjust rail position again if necessary, and tighten all screws.

My mom actually called Z-Line about this problem and their response was to mail the unit back to them for a replacement, which is ridiculous considering you've already assembled (and glued) it together. They're obviously aware of this problem since so many customers are experiencing it and have made the shrewd decision to allow their customers to suffer the inconvenience of a faulty product rather than recalling them from the store shelves as they should. They probably also factor in the 'hassel factor' of returning such a bulky item, knowing many people will just opt to keep the product as-is.

While you can't expect much from a no-name manufacturer like Z-Line, I expect more from Staples -- they shouldn't carry this product (or anything from this manufacturer) until they correct their quality problems.

Comments about Z-Line Wood Lateral File Cabinet, 30" Wide, 2-Drawer, Oak:

Heavy particle board cabinet but bottom of drawers won't hold any weight. No where does it mention this on box only on instructions after you get it home and unpacked. Can only be used for hanging files only - not for storage of any kind. As heavy as it is everywhere else you'd think they could have had the drawer bottoms thick enough to hold weight.

Comments about Z-Line Wood Lateral File Cabinet, 30" Wide, 2-Drawer, Oak:

This product was easy to assemble, but the drawers catch on the bottom cross brace. Due to this catch, the metal bars used to hang the files fall from their slot and the files fall to the bottom of the drawer and cause the drawer bottom to come out.

Comments about Z-Line Wood Lateral File Cabinet, 30" Wide, 2-Drawer, Oak:

I love the material it is made from and its a beautiful cabinet. It wasn't too hard to assemble, but unfortunately the bottom drawer front bangs the frame at the bottom when closing the drawer, and I have to lift it and push it in.

Comments about Z-Line Wood Lateral File Cabinet, 30" Wide, 2-Drawer, Oak:

Fits perfect in my Home/Business w/TV on the top!
File drawers are handy, right beside my PC desk!
File drawers, both, don't stop on the left side at the end of the open position! Bottom drawer catches on the bottom when closing! Removed both to check on the problem, but found nothing wrong, only to find the cabinet and the drawers were very rif-rafty, so tightened up on the hardware, even though it was already tight, and still rif-raft continued on the file cabinet and both drawers!
I plan on checking out the problem at the store, and return the file cabinet, if nothing can be done!

Comments about Z-Line Wood Lateral File Cabinet, 30" Wide, 2-Drawer, Oak:

I bought 3 for my home office. I am handy and you had better be, too; these take a lot of work to put together. I recommend gluing all parts.

Of the three cabinets, one had the drawer glides wrong and the drawer would not close completely (caught up on cabinet) so I had to remove and re-attach those in a better position.

Note that if you use LEGAL size files, you can only fit one row, the second row will have to be letter size, and sideways --- awkward. For LETTER size files, you fit two rows front to back, side by side. Works great for letter size.
