First off, Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) does not support Flash. So what - neither do the iThingies. Adobe itself has said that Flash is done, not in the future of its products or support.

The Nexus 7 is the reference platform for 7" Android tablets, so updates to Android happen on this before any other devices. The quadcore Nvidia Tegra 3 processor is the high end in tablets now, and this tablet takes full advantage of that power. Graphics are smooth, games play fast and applications respond without any lag. Wireless works well, as does Bluetooth.

It works well as a reader - you can load the Nook app, the Kindle app, Google Books and magazines, giving you access to books everywhere from the same device. It will last almost 10 hours browsing, and seems to sleep overnighT without losing any power.

It charges fast with the included charger, but is slow when just plugged into your PC (needs more power than typical USB port can provide).

If it had a micro sd slot, it would be perfect for me. The backing feels a little slippery for my liking, but when covered with Zagg or in a case it is fine.

This is one of the most powerful Android tablets on the market, and it is half the cost of similar configurations (price an Asus transformer prime).

All in all, a well-rounded tablet at a great price.

I purchased two of these, one for my spouse and one for myself. They arrived nicely packaged, but the instruction booklet is so small I could barely read the print. So I guessed that the best thing to do was to charge them. I plugged in the first one and a battery charge indicator showed on the screen. So far so good. I plugged in the second and nothing happened. Other than the screen, there is no charge indicator. I thought maybe the battery was really dead, so I just let them charge for about 2 hours. The first one turned on, the other did nothing. I tried the first one's charger, but no difference. I then called Staples for an exchange, but they told me they were sold out and discontinued. They encouraged me to return it to Asus rather than the store. I did an on-line search and found that if bought from Google, Google will do an instant exchange under warranty. Otherwise, it goes to Asus for repair. Since it was DOA, I didnt want a repair, I wanted a new tablet. Plus, when I searched "Nexus7" on Asus' support site, it said no such product. When I Googled I found a link, but when I clicked on the link to get the support phone number, it went nowhere. I think this speaks much about Asus' quality control. So I returned the tablet to Staples.

The one that works is really nice. I loaded one app, a book reader, and then downloaded (with more than a little difficulty) a novel from Project Gutenberg. However, an occasonal annoyance started to happen. When navigating the tablet, out of the blue a dating service ad pops up. This happened several times and I doubt it was do to the ebook reader. So I pay for a tablet and I pay for Internet access and that allows "whoever" to spam me with ads? I don't think so. The second app I installed was AdBlockPlus. I hope this will take care of these annoyances. It's hard for me to recommend this device based on the unsolicited ads. I suspect, but am not sure, they are coming from Google. I think they should make it real clear that you just paid ~$200 to get spammed with ads when connected to the Internet.

A valuable tool!

Comments about ASUS® Google™ Nexus 7 32GB Tablet:

I find this tablet to be a very valuable tool. It is well-designed and attractive. The screen resolution is excellent and it is very responsive.

I wish that the "ink" on some of the drawing applications was better, but I don't know if that's a problem with the application or the tablet.

I use this tablet primarily for my business applications and they work very well on this tablet. All of the Google Play applications seem to be available on this tablet as well.

All in all I'm very happy with this tool and the price I paid can't be beat!

DOA Out of the Box

By SAW CPA

Comments about ASUS® Google™ Nexus 7 32GB Tablet:

After I phone-ordered two Nexus 7 tablets and before they were delivered, a Geeky tech guy at another retailer commented "Lots of luck with that one" explaining that they have had lots of defective returns with the Nexus 7. He went on to say that many of the Nexus 7 Tablets were DOA from the get-go (wouldn't turn on), but that if I were lucky enough to get one that turned on from the start, then it should be ok going forward.

Of the two that I ordered, one started up just fine and the other was DOA out of the box (would not start up at all). It looks a couple of weeks of major hassle with Staples before I finally got a unit that would turn on.

I would never have ordered the Nexus 7 from Staples if I had known the hassle and how much of my time it would take to finally get one that turned on.

While I haven't been using it very long, I do have a couple of commments:

POSITIVE COMENTS:
The screen display is very crisp and sharp and the processor seems fairly quick. Generally, it works just as well as my smartphone and I was thrilled that it was able to access my Google account and download all the settings that I had on my cellphone onto the Nexus 7 (including the lock screen banner that, in case I lose it, reads: "Reward if found: (957) 123-4567" (<--Not my actual office landline phone number.) I assume that any Android tablet by any manufacturer would do the same.

NEGATIVE COMMENTS:
The width of the unit makes it a bit awkward to hold in my hand (and I imagine people with smaller hands would have a more difficult time). I need to buy a case to make it easier to hold.
One thing has been driving me nuts: On my current Samsiung S5 smartphone (and my prior S3), the 'BACK' soft button is in the lower RIGHT corner of the bezel (and the 'Open Apps' soft button is in the lower left corner) and that's what I'm used to. On the Asus Nexus 7, the 'back' soft button is in the lower LEFT corner of the bezel (and the 'Open Apps' soft button is also the opposite). In short, the Nexus 7 is the reverse of what I am used to and I constantly find myself hitting the wrong soft button on the Nexus 7. When I want to go back one page, I wind up opening the list of open apps. Worse, when I want to go to an app I used earlier, I wind up going back a page and losing what I was just working on.
In short, if you have a Samsung (or other smartphone with a similar layout)), you will not be happy with the layout of the Nexus 7.
