I spent hours researching high-end, art quality printers before deciding on the HP BP9180 to handle my emerging natue photography business. This printer is a large, heavy, and solid workhorse that produces archival art museum quality prints. The hardest part was making room for the space required and getting the large printer out of the box. From that point on it took no time to set up, connect to PC with USB running on Windows XP platform. It is extremely important that the correct papers be used with the 8-pigment dye inks. The first produced image nearly knocked my socks off -- definitely in the high "WOW" category. So much so I woke my husband (it was late at night) to show him the first results. It's been 5 months now and I've printed quite a few prints, including up to 11x17 framable art without having to replace an ink cartridge until today. One 8x10 won first place in sunset/sunrise category.

I have spent countless hours trying to get this printer to work using Quark 7 and the iMac 20" OS 10.4.7
The first printer ate the paper and the black tiff's had a pink cast as did the 20% screened black boxes. So it went back.
The second printer same trouble.
The third printer has finally been sent back to HP and my money returned.
Come to find out they haven't made the drivers for this printer using OSX 10.4.10 and they cannot give me a time frame when they will be avaialbe.
So i bought another HP printer the Pro 9180 (what was i thinking) and it is being sent back it prints a 9" x 10" document 9.25" x 10.25".
I think it's time to try an Epson.

I use it mainly for digital photography: family, friends & sports events. I purchased it in July and was underwhelmed for the first month or so because my pictures were all dark & I thought I'd lost my ability to edit digital pictures with Photoshop Elements. I calibrated my laptop display & still had same results. With my old printer I'd always printed at 300dpi. In one of his books, Scott Kelby said that 150dpi was all that was needed for many printing jobs. I reduced the dpi to 150 and it made a huge difference in color rendering in 4x6 prints & 8.5x11. Quality is amazing. I haven't printed anything at the 13x19 size yet so can't comment on that.
