Provides flat surface so air can move and reduce heat buildup on your lap or any other surface that could restrict ventilation of the laptop (pillow,bed,etc). you don't need cooling fans if you use this properly, your laptop was designed to work on a flat solid surface not soft or padded ones which will block air flow.

The designers of this laptop tray had their heads on straight--it's constructed to compensate for "lap slant" and so sits level. Handy for snacking as well.

Purchasing a second one for second laptop. Gave it only 4 stars because the snap-up legs - which were GREAT - eventually broke off. Product still useful but miss the extra tilt the legs provided.

Very useful for traveling-can pack in laptop bag. Be sure to check risers as one of mine did not function completely (it was stuck)- needed to return for replacement. All-in-all great product for my needs. Would be best to use with 14" or smaller laptop for best comfort.
