Our out-of-warranty MFC7220 developed chronic paper jamming. Rather than buy parts/service for our old machine we upgraded to the MFC-7840W. We were spoiled by the fast, high definition laser output from our previous MFC. We tried a wireless Inkjet all-in-one by another manufacturer but returned it 2 days later and purchased this machine for about $100.00 more. It was an excellent decision and well worth the extra $$. We needed a flat bed copier for copying insurance cards and the convenience of wireless connectivity to my wife's laptop. Did I mention the speed and quality of laser printing and scanning? The inkjet was noisy and slow and I didn't want to continually replace inkjet cartridges. We fax quite a bit and this machine does it all. I tried the scanner last night and I was surpised how easy it was to use by pressing the scan button on the printer and using the "Brother Control Center" software on my desktop. The color image was excellent. If B&W printing meets your needs and you want a wireless all-in-one machine I would definitely recommend this product!

Just purchased this product 2 weeks ago for printing a small amount of paychecks / invoices & reports per week. And dealing with MSDOS Program that will only print from Parallel Port (b/c there are NO printers anymore with Parallels) Set up didn't work the way the manual said it would, had to reload drivers 3 times to start with (seemed to print fine when drivers were finally installed). On 1st day of actual use, after having no problems printing checks, I ended up spending 5 hours w/ DELL tech support b/c printer would not print out labels/reports in MS Word and Brother Techs would not deal w/ the problem - they told me it had nothing to do with them or their printer. Dell got it working (sort of). 2nd payroll, printed 5 checks and had 15 checks jam and print wrong. Regular paper jamming now too. Thought this would be the perfect printer to replace HP Inkjet that was 10 years old, boy was I wrong - I ended up still having to use my HP. Planning a trip back to store to return. WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER BROTHER PRODUCT AGAIN.

I've been using this printer for about a week now and I really love it. I needed to replace my old Brother MFC 4350 and wanted to stick to the same brand because the old one worked reliably for about 10 years. The wireless set-up for 7840W was a little difficult for my level user, but my husband (an IT professional) had no problem at all setting it up. The machine is unbelievably fast! The printing, copying, scanning and faxing functions work well and are user friendly. The wireless feature is great too, we've loaded the printer drivers on 1 workstation and 2 other laptops and can send print jobs from virtually anywhere in the house. I use this machine for my home office and do quite a bit of printing throughout the day. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend.

Yield is suppose to be 1500 pages per print cartridge, but that's unattainable. I am getting 500 to 800 pages per cartridge. Cartridges last 3 days to 1 week. This gets very expensive for any kind of volume printing. Also, printer needs a new drum every 5 to 8 cartridges. I may need to get another printer and use this just for faxes.

I have owned several Brother printers in the past and have been very pleased, both by the printers and by tech support. When I brought this printer home from Staples, it worked fine in every mode but scanning, where I received a CC 3205 error. I immediately reported this to the Brother tech support line. They said they would send me a file to diagnose the problem. I never received the file, and just let this slide. Now (six months later)I am told that this is a known issue with some XP machines which has not been resolved, and that there is no time frame for resolving the issue. So I am screwed. I will never buy another Brother product.

The packaging says you are supposed to get 1,500 pages out of one cartridge. I do not know if this was tested with about 1 letter a page, but I think
that is a flat lie. I get about 200 pages out of one and it is costing me an arm and a leg. I would not recomend this for even a small business use. You can also not cancel a print job no matter what you do. It also took me two days to get the wireless set up because the instructions were incorrect and I had to call Brother. I also wish it would print double sided.
