As a recent photo school grad I have made hundreds of prints on various professional printers... I have to say that the prints from my new R1900 are the best I have ever made. The colors, gradations and fine details in the prints are rendered perfectly. The gloss optimizer coat gives rich glossy prints that look like traditional photo lab prints. The printer features automatic matte black ink switching which means I can make quality prints on any kinda of media...even CD's! And It's fast. Basically if you want to make exquisite glossy prints as large as 13x19 inches you will be thrilled with this printer.

I bought this printer after reading reviews, I had owned a Cannon wide format before ,it had great colors and was much more reliable than this one has been. I had to return this printer 3 times for various problemsto the manufacturer , now after 40 prints (13 by 19 and 1 panorama) , I cannot get it to recognize 2 cartridges even though they are brand new, these smart chips the OEM's are putting in these printer to keep people from buying cheaper cartridges have began to cause problems such as this. If and when I get money up for a new one, it probably be the HP or, if Cannon comes up with one that does Panoramas a Cannon.

I saw the one-star review--and he must have gotten a lemon. I've owned 6 or 7 Epson printers and the quality has been excellent. The R1900 is no exception--however it's not that much better than EPSON's much older Photo 1280 printer, which is also excellent and uses cheaper ink. The cost of Epson ink is the real negative here. Secondly, Epson has not yet figured out how to design a fail-safe way of printing disks. The disk printer is always fussy. Based on my experience, you should expect this product to fail in 1-2 years, even with light use. Epson has the image thing down pat, but not reliability. For the price and quality, it's a nice printer.

While this is not a pro printer it is certainly capable of professional looking prints. The "pro" designation is reserved for CONTINUOUS printing which causes wear and tear. My previous printer was an Epson R1800. It served me well for three and a half years of really hard pro service. Anyone not satisfied with the R1900 has received a lemon (possibility with ANY brand) or, simply did not know how to properly set up the printer. If it was slow that would be due to computer, not printer. There is a forum for people that work in a well (best) known photo editing program. Five of those professional people have taken advantage of this sale. Every one of them gave rave reviews of the R1900.

Read every review, best gloss printer period. Got it here for 350 after MIR. "WOW" Can't wait to print on memory discs.People can't believe I printed at home.After purchace , GO to Europe epson ,have earlier releases of updates ect.
If you do more black & white not the best but good. For the price you could set up a Jon Cone 8 gray scale system on a second printer and have the best of both worlds. GOOGLE it.piozography . Smaller Snapshots might cost more than lab but if your considering this printer you are probably after larger capabilities and have a capable camera anyway.
