Good price for 1TB drive.
Easy setup. Sleek design and quiet. Prefer metal case of this model to the black plastic of the Maxtors

Too bad the backup software is just designed to synch computers, encrypt files, or backup selected folders. No boot CD or imaging of HD function, I feel that is essential for a backup.

Had extra copy of Norton Save and Restore (kind of simplified Norton Ghost) and installed that to use after uninstalling the Seagate backup software. I have been thru 2 HD failures with Norton (1 with Ghost, 1 with Save and Restore) and booting and restoring is quick and easy if you have a backup image.

Good Drive for Archiving Files you want access to occasionally but not often. It's a bit slow for my taste as I deal with huge image files but it's very quiet and somewhat small but requires external power plug in so it's not portable. Compared to my Western Digital USB drive it is much slower and 3 times as large physically but also 3 times as much space. My WD drive is powered by the USB port on my laptop so it's very portable since i velcroed it to the back of my laptop, it's always with me... So when i run out of space on that I just transfer the stuff I don't need ot the Seagate. It takes a while but it works... This is not a good drive to work off of because of the speed. Price was right though...

The only problem with this drive was not a problem with the drive. I had to edit my Windows XP registry for IRP stack size because the default value is set too low - probably for smaller hard drives. I got an error message saying not enough space on drive. Gotta love windows sometimes. Bought a Maxtor before this one: First drive failed after 4 days, replacement drive failed in same way at 6 months. They didn't run as well as the Seagate either. I like the Seagate better (strange since Seagate owns Maxtor).

I purchased this terabyte drive to store an image of a computer that I had to replace due to failure. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to use the unit as a backup drive after the transfer. My only fear is that the hard drive will fail as I have read in other reviews, but one terabyte under $100 is a great bargain.
