I am a nursing student and I sit in the middle of a classroom made for for about 80 people. I keep the recorder on my table during lectures and I hear everything perfectly. With the stereo microphone, I get a quality stereo sound especially when I listen with the headphones. It feels like I am right back in the classroom. There is background noise from other students, but it is because I am in the middle of the classroom and I can still hear the instructor just as loud as I would normally. I like hearing the other students because I can hear their questions. I could not imagine a recorder sounding any better!

We wanted to record stories from senior citizens, but some stories didn't record because the directions were complicated. Once we discovered how to work the device, it worked very well.

I love this device for lectures. It records well even from the back of the hall. I download the wma onto my PC and then onto my Samsung mp3 player. You can listen directly from the Olympus device itself, but I prefer to conserve battery life. It requires only 1 AAA battery, which lasts for about 15 hours for the recording quality I selected. It's best to unplug earbuds when recording because if the buds (or cell phone or any other electronic is turned on) are too close to the device, the resulting recording will manifest high pitch interefence sound which may hurt your ears and drive the dogs crazy.

I play bass as well as guitar, and I use this product to record practice cd's of our band so I can practice our music at home between practices. When downloaded onto a cd, the sound quality is great. When recording live though, the recorder does pick up a lot of the background noise from the audience. It may be that I have just not figured out how to set the settings to buffer it out yet though. It works so wonderful that we are going to use it to record and make ourselves some demo cd's, that way we can hand them out to get ourselves more gigs. Over all, I couldn't be happier.
