We use it as a table. I didn't bother with the riser. The slick black is cool, but it is easy to scratch. Overall, as a desk/table, it is very sturdy, looks good, and the rounded edges mean it's very child safe.

I needed a desk for the days I work from home (sitting at the dining room table was getting old) but I didn't have a lot of extra space, and I do not like clutter.... this piece is perfect!...As it turns out, I spend more time using it for personal "work". I have a small table off to the side and a small 3 drawer unit (I mean small, but cute) for office supplies etc, on the other side all together it is perfect. If I ever need a bit more space for entertaining it is very easy to move around the smaller pieces.

This desk is good if you don't do much work on it but just need to have space for your laptop and keep things organized. I personally removed the laptop surface in order to increase available working space.
The nice thing is that I can move it from one room to another because it's very light.

I just moved into an older office with an old wooden desk. This workstation is the perfect height for my flat screen monitor and no annoying pull out tray for the keyboard and mouse, they are all on the desktop. Perfect!
