For those with desire to be organized, like me, always behind the 8-ball, this is the best Paper Sorter I've ever found.
Rather than file by day or month, I use a Pencil Index stashed behind front cover, making up names of files matched to numbers as I file. Much easier to find file names on one page than guess which alpha file I used for say, car insurance: "car" or "Insurance" or "auto"? In the past, I've had 3 files for car insurance. No longer!
This is a great temporary file, and also good for stashing away papers while in a recliner watching a little tv as it's portable, unlike hanging files, my favorite permanent storage system (also used with a pencil index, so hard reading file names in a drawer).
It's bulky when filled, but flexible. My latest one is about 7 inches thick, ready for tackling taxes. Takes up a lot of horizontal space but may be used vertically on a shelf. Since it's open on 3 sides, take care to avoid losing papers pulling it off the shelf.

Comments about Staples® EveryDay® Letter Size File & Sorter, 1-31 & Jan-Dec, Each:
Solidly Made organizer for setting up pay schedules. Has 1-31 for present month, and then Jan-Dec for subsequent months. Well made, with holes in each section (to make SURE you don't miss any invoices). A little expensive, but well made; if I avoid one late payment or catch one extra payment discount with this device, it will have paid for itself!
Comments about Staples® EveryDay® Letter Size File & Sorter, 1-31 & Jan-Dec, Each:
I'm not the most organized guy in the world and I need a place to have floating papers (not big files and/or projects, which are easy to keep track of) in a system that alerts me when I need to take action on something.

I'm an Efficiency Expert and I get all my clients to use it as a way to remember things that need to get done that are in paperform. This way they don't have to "keep it in their head".

As a busy Human Resource professional, I have used this product most of my career to help tame the mountain of necessary paperwork in the HR world and make the most of time management. I can put a note, document, folder, etc... to be completed on a specific day or month and then focus on what I need to do right now - feeling confident that what I filed will not be forgotten or lost through the cracks. Organized!! Works for organizing your personal life as well.

I've used a tickler file for a long time and I find it one of those things I order for every job I've had. This time I bought it and I'm using it for my job now, but it is mine and I'm keeping it when I move on to the next job because it is something I want to use.

Q:
Are the sides of the sorter enclosed? I would like the sides to be open so that it's easier to flip to the number or month I need and add paper to it. (If it's like an envelope it's too much trouble to stick your hand inside and grab small receipts, etc.)
The thickness will vary depending how many documents are filed in each pocket.

Q:
Are the 1- 31 tabs attached to file folders, or are they only dividers? Are the Jan- Dec folders, too? Does everything fit into an expanding file, or is this all one piece. Thanks!

These are divided, there are no tabs or folders. You can see the numbering as the are stepped so you can see them. It is all one piece, you can pick the whole thing up easy, about the size of a 2 inch binder when empty.

The 1-31 Tabs, as well as the Jan-Dec Tabs are dividers which are all attached as a one-piece unit. Each section provides almost 3/4" for papers. As you see, the File & Sorter is best used with the spine down with the tabs upright. Standing this item upright, like a book would allow things to fall out - but would work well for some sorting projects, I'm sure. I actually keep mine open on the desk as a Daily Tickler (reminder), but it also fits in my file cabinet and/or computer bag (briefcase).
Hope I answered your questions clearly.

This item is all one piece with a spine about 1 inch thick empty. It begins with the index tabs 1-31 and following behind are the 12 monthly tabs. It can hold quite a bit of information.
