Plenty of room for USB hard drives.As another reviewer wrote, the water-proof feature is really important, to avoid damage from the water from fire hoses used to extinguish a fire, and not just direct damage from the fire itself.Many reviews focused on difficulty opening/closing but I had NO PROBLEMS, in fact I think this is a very clever design, which is a side-effect of requiring a water-proof seal.When you take the safe out of the box, you will see a piece of paper in the latch mechanism that says (and diagrams) you must push down on the top of the unit with one hand while depressing the release-latch with the other hand. This is really EASY to do. One reviewer said a person had to sit on the top -- that is NOT true for the unit I received, which works exceptionally well. When you do open the safe, I note that there is a bar on the back left that props the lid open -- similar to how some car hoods stay open. This too I found to be a simple and effective design. With a tap, it closes, easy as that.I would certainly recommend this safe to others.

Pretty good overall value for the price.
Interior has sloped sides. Have to trim hanging
files so they hang properly. POORLY THOUGHT
OUT!!
Would rather see a standard key lock, not the "pop
machine" lock it currently has. Not very
sturdy.
Lid support when open is pretty flimsy. Don't
think it would stand up to much continuous use.

It stated that I could store (hanging) legal sized paper in it but it wasn't wide enough. The first one that I had wouldn't lock most of the time. Also, when I first started to use it the door props both broke because the were so flimsily made. Staple replaced that one.

I trust that this safe will do what it claims. It certainly is sturdy enough. The weight of this safe means that once it's in place, you're not going to want to move it again. It also means that it's not likely anyone is going to carry it off casually. It has sufficient capacity to store most any household's documents. The main problem is that the latch frequently sticks, which requires my sitting on the top to open the latch or to close it completely so that the safe can be locked. (Merely pressing down on the top isn't sufficient. My wife is unable to accomplish the task with her full weight.) If one need to grab papers in a hurry, this could be a significant obstacle.

The safe seems to built strong but as a "safe" meaning keeping the contents safe from intruders and fire, water, etc. This safe does not lock, it has a flimsy lock and a little tug on the lid and it pops open. Therefore you can't keep the contents "safe" from intruders. I bought the unit 6 months before I used it. I tried to get the unit replaced thinking it is faulty but to date I have had no joy from anybody.
