I use my printer very little, especially the color cartridge, and I always turn it off (to extend the cartridge life, I was told). Still the cartridge lasted only three months. Brand cartridges usually last me at least twice that long (according to my purchases recorded in my banking software) and they are not that much more expensive, initially.

Thr first Staples color cartridge I bought was just before leaving on a trip. I only printed a couple of things, and didn't really notice much.\nWhen I got back, I expected to print a lot of photos so I bought another one. Both of them performed very badly, so I returned them and went back to using Lexmark.

The colours leave something to be desired. The solid blue, for example, prints as a pastel rather than the deep colour selected on-screen.
