This is NOT a heavy duty shredder. At best it is a medium duty shredder. I guess it's considered a heavy duty shredder because you can use it up to 50 times a day but who can 20 minutes between each of those 50 uses? However, this is the cheapest micro-cut shredder with a fairly large bin. Basically if you have a lot to shred, when you fill the basket after it was empty, you're just about done for the next 20 minutes. I was able to purchase this shredder with a [$] rebate (which is a visa gift card) so I think it's a decent value at [$] (including tax on the [$]). I'm not sure I would have purchased this shredder at full price after using it. The micro cut is great but don't shred envelopes, labels, or carbon forms. This is a good medium duty, every day shredder. If you are always shredding high volume, this is not the one to get. The good thing is it is very quiet and I don't have to turn up my music too loud while I'm shredding. I use this in my home office and I can use it at night without fear of waking anyone up in the house. Another thing I wish they could have improved was design of the basket. If you have a bag in the shredder basket....no problem. If you didn't put a bag in it, it is awkward to empty the basket into a bag that is half-full of shredded material. There's no good way to hold the basket with one hand and empty it while trying to hold the bag with your other hand. The mailmate has a handle on the basket and this shredder could have benefitted from a similar design.

the SPL-1070M is quiet and very efficient. the one down side I discovered after getting it home was the suggestion not to feed envelopes. This could clog it up.
