A Pain To Assemble

I am good at assembling furniture. But this file cabinet was a huge pain.\n\nThe problem? Phillips head screws with heads so small that even the correct Phillips bit barely fits into the grooves. These little screws require significant force on the screwdriver to thread them into the holes provided. The force is so high that THE SCREW HEADS STRIP quite easily. In the case of one screw inside a file drawer guide, I had to spend $20 on a set of GrabIt bits so that I could back a stripped screw out of its hole. I had to drill some of the holes a bit wider to make it possible to turn the screws in all the way.\n\nIn addition, the wood screws don't hold well in the particle board construction. I put one of the file drawers on its side to screw the slide mechanism to it, and THE SCREWS PULLED RIGHT OUT OF THE DRAWER FRONT. I did not put any large forces on that drawer.\n\nIt's too bad because it's a nice looking unit. But as far as strength and ease of assembly go, it's not ready for prime time.
